Paques Biomaterials has completed a new funding round, raising € 14 million to take the next step in the production of a biopolymer that offers the benefits of plastic but not the disadvantages. The investment in Paques Biomaterials from Invest-NL amounts to € 2.5 million. This is the result of the collaboration with and investment from NOM through the so-called ‘ROM Range Extender’.

PHA’s (Polyhydroxyalkanoates), a family of bio-based and biodegradable materials, have long been considered a very promising alternative to conventional fossil-based plastics. However, producers of microbially produced polyesters find it difficult to achieve scalable industrial production at cost-competitive levels.
