Deep tech
We don't know exactly what the technology of the future will look like. But we do know that we depend on it. Our National Technology Strategy identifies ten technologies that are essential for our economic growth, national security, and solving societal challenges. If we want to succeed in this, significant investments are needed to help deep tech companies through the infamous ‘valley of death’.
We want to elevate innovative Dutch deep tech companies to the European top. They are crucial for our future earning capacity and societal challenges such as sustainability, healthcare, and digital transformation. To grow further, there is a significant need for capital, which the market does not currently address. That is where our role lies. By investing now, we strengthen the future earning potential of the Netherlands.
Our strategic choices
The Deep Tech Fund focuses on investing in the early stages and scaling the companies involved with the technologies of the future. By concentrating on deep tech niches where the Netherlands has strong potential, we contribute to a more competitive and innovative technological position for the Netherlands on a global scale.
Large capital requirements
Our goal is to help companies through the ‘valley of death’. Therefore, the fund invests in deep tech companies with significant capital needs and propositions involving substantial market and technological risks.
We focus on eight of the ten key technologies from the National Technology Strategy (NTS): chemical technology, digital technology, quantum technology, photonics, nanotechnology, advanced materials, life sciences technologies, engineering and manufacturing technologies.
Deep tech portfolio
We are proud of the companies in which we invest and the funds in which we participate. With these entrepreneurs and partners, we make an impact.
About the Deep Tech Fund

We want to make an impact. We do this within several strategic themes: Agrifood, Biobased & Circular economy, Deep tech, Energy, and Life Sciences & Health. See how we are taking steps together within these themes.
The Netherlands aims for a sustainable and climate-neutral food system. This requires a shift towards the production and consumption of mainly plant-based proteins, and a transition to regenerative agriculture. We invest in companies and promote sectors related to plant-based proteins, soil quality restoration, biodiversity, and regenerative farming.
The Netherlands has set a goal to become a fully circular and bio-based economy by 2050. We focus on preventing overconsumption and waste, and restoring natural ecosystems. We collaborate on new financing solutions and invest in companies that contribute to a successful circular economy.
To limit climate change, a significant shift from fossil fuels to sustainable technologies and energy sources is necessary. We aim for a fully CO₂-neutral and circular energy system by 2050. We are working on expanding alternatives to fossil fuels, strengthening the economic structure through innovation, and promoting energy conservation.
The level of care in the Netherlands is high, but costs are rising and healthcare is not equally accessible to everyone. We focus on innovative enterprises and initiatives that prevent, replace, and relocate costly care. We develop models that make preventive care affordable and invest in the diagnostics and medical technology of tomorrow.
