5 minutesInvest-NL participates in an investment round for LeydenJar Technologies. The financial injection is necessary to further develop the unique technology and scale up LeydenJar's battery factory. This prepares LeydenJar for mass production at a competitive price. Christian Rood (co-founder and CEO of LeydenJar Technologies) and Michiel Jonkman (senior investment manager at Invest-NL) discuss this discovery from Dutch soil.
LeydenJar has a clear ambition: to enable clean battery cells with the highest energy density in the world based on pure silicon anode foil. LeydenJar's technology provides batteries with 70% more energy storage compared to the best batteries on the current market.
We simply need better batteries for better products.

To further develop the unique technology and scale up LeydenJar's factory, an investment was necessary. Christian adds: “with the investment, we can take the step towards mass markets for our technology. This involves three aspects: conducting R&D to make the battery more efficient and to prolong its lifespan, designing, building, and utilising a new machine to produce anode rolls at an industrial level, and expanding our organisation so we can handle qualification projects on a larger scale.”

Dutch and American investors participated in the €22 million funding round. Ultimately, Invest-NL took part with €5 million. Other participants in this Series A funding round include YARD ENERGY, Catalus Capital, ING Sustainable Investments, and Somerset Capital Partners. Existing investors (including BOM, Stichting Doen, and PVS Investments) are also continuing their investments in the company.
Christian initially came into contact with Frits de Vries, Senior Business Development Manager at Invest-NL, during the preparation of the new funding round. Christian: “Frits was very familiar with the high-tech sector and recognized our potential in the market. And that’s not something to be taken for granted by investors, because we are a typical deeptech company based on an innovation within TNO.” Michiel adds: “Frits pointed me to LeydenJar. That was in 2019. We then took our time building a relationship before LeydenJar came to us in 2021 with a very concrete request.”
We are both committed to the long term.
