EindhovenSMART Photonics, the Dutch scale-up for integrated photonic chip manufacturing, has raised € 100 million in a new funding round.
The Deep Tech Fund, a part of Invest-NL, invested € 5 million. Other investors include several strategic players from the semiconductor industry (ASML, NXP, and VDL Group), and the financial sector (BOP, Impact Ventures, and ING). Additionally, existing investors such as Innovation Industries, BOM, PhotonDelta, and KPN Ventures are also participating in this funding round. The Dutch government has allocated € 60 million through the National Growth Fund.
With this new financing, SMART Photonics aims to strengthen its role as a leading manufacturer of chips in Europe. The chip factory at the High Tech Campus produces photonic chips. These transmit information via particles of light (photons), making them more energy-efficient and faster than regular computer chips.
