End of Waste

April 18, 2023
Increasing circularity requires improving recycling rates. Recycling reduces the need for new fossil resources and decreases the amount of waste that is incinerated or dumped. However, waste can be contaminated and pose safety risks to both human health and the environment. Therefore, recyclers must demonstrate that their recycling process transforms waste into safe products.
The results have been published in the report: "End of Waste."
The "End-of-Waste" whitepaper describes issues surrounding the end-of-waste status. Based on this report, four potential solutions have been developed within the current system, considering two dimensions: 1) a greater role for public or private entities and 2) more or less legal certainty. Subsequently, these solutions are broadly explained as they have been presented to stakeholders. The elements of a solution are described.
The results have been published in the report: "Naar oplossingen voor de problematiek rondom einde-afvalstatus." (Dutch)
Based on the solutions to the end-of-waste status issues, a solution strategy and plan have been developed. This solution strategy and plan have been elaborated into five key points. These five key points together constitute the solution strategy with the core messages. The results have been presented in the report: "Einde afvalstatus oplossingsstrategie en plan." (Dutch)
