Impact of circular fertilizers

July 16, 2024
Mineral fertilisers are essential in our agricultural system; they provide life and enable crops to grow. Unfortunately, the use of artificial fertilisers or animal manure has a negative impact on soil, air, and water. Recycling minerals from, for example, manure, sewage sludge, and wastewater can reduce environmental impact and offers benefits. These ‘circular’ minerals are still only partially recovered and are difficult to market. Invest-NL, together with 3scale-ups, in collaboration with consulting and engineering firm TAUW, is researching the reasons why circular minerals are not being used as a sustainable alternative to animal and artificial fertilisers.
