Invest-NL aims to increase the financing options for companies that contribute to the transition towards a CO₂ -neutral and circular economy. In addition to applying for subsidies, the growing voluntary carbon market can provide these companies with extra income.  Examples include: do you sequester carbon by growing a bio-based crop? Or have you developed a technology that reduces emissions significantly more than current practices? Then you can receive carbon certificates for this achievement and sell them on the voluntary carbon market. This way, you enhance your climate performance!

To assist companies in this process, Invest-NL has commissioned the JIN Climate and Sustainability knowledge centre to research the voluntary carbon market and relevant climate policies. This has resulted in a roadmap that provides companies with insights into which policy instruments and market incentives best match their activities. Using two examples, it demonstrates how companies can strengthen their business models by delivering climate performance. Additionally, the report offers financiers and policymakers insight into relevant climate policies and the opportunities and risks of the voluntary carbon market.
