Invest-NL has made a follow-up investment in DAB.bio, a Delft-based technology developer that makes industrial fermentation cheaper and more sustainable. The funding round was led by Navus Ventures, with participation from Capricorn Partners and existing investors FORWARD.one and InnovationQuarter.
Fermentation is the process in which microorganisms convert raw materials into, for example, proteins, fuels, or chemicals. This forms the basis of many biobased production processes. However, on a large scale, fermentation is often expensive.
Therefore, DAB.bio developed a technology that allows the substances produced by microorganisms during the fermentation process to be continuously removed from the reactor. This results in much higher productivity with the same equipment, without the need for expensive filters or centrifuges. This innovation makes it possible to produce biobased products on a large scale at lower costs.
Invest-NL is investing half a million in this round. The new financing enables DAB.bio to further scale up and commercialise the technology. This marks an important step towards broad market introduction of its technology.
For Invest-NL, the investment aligns with the ambition to make the chemical sector more sustainable and to contribute to a biobased and climate-neutral economy.
