Invest-NL, in partnership with ING, Dow, Polestar Capital, and Vopak, invests in Xycle, an innovative company in chemical recycling of plastic. With this funding, Xycle will establish its first commercial factory. The financing from Invest-NL is partly covered by an Invest-EU guarantee. This investment helps Xycle convert difficult-to-recycle plastic waste into valuable raw materials, thereby strengthening the circular plastics industry.
The new factory, which is being constructed in the port of Rotterdam, will process and convert 21,000 tons of plastic waste annually into pyrolysis oil. This oil serves as a circular alternative to fossil raw materials and can be used for the production of new plastics. With a strong market outlet, innovative technology, and strategic location, Xycle has the potential to make a substantial contribution to the circular economy.
Invest-NL supports Xycle at this stage with an investment of €10 million because the company plays an important role in scaling up chemical recycling in the Netherlands. Chemical recycling is an essential complement to mechanical recycling and helps to reuse plastic waste streams that would otherwise be incinerated or landfilled.
"At Invest-NL, we are proud to support Xycle in scaling up its plastic recycling technology and accelerating the transition to a circular economy. Xycle provides a clear route to commercial scale and contributes to a more sustainable plastics industry," says Lars Groenveld, senior investment manager at Invest-NL.
With this investment, Invest-NL is contributing to the realisation of a circular plastics chain and the transition to a circular economy.
