Invest-NL to invest € 25 million in Polestar Capital

In collaboration with the Dutch province of Limburg, Onderlinge 's-Gravenhage and De Hoop, Invest-NL is to invest € 85 million in the Polestar Capital Circular Debt Fund (PCDF). The fund aims to accelerate the transition to a circular economy and will have a total scope of € 187 million as a result of this new investment.

The PCDF invests in circular production companies in the field of CO2reduction, waste reduction and fossil fuel substitution. They often invest in innovative technology that can be used to improve the sustainability of a global value chain. By funding these projects at an early stage, the PCDF enables circular production companies to prove their technology and business model on a commercial scale sooner. This makes it easier other financial backers to finance further scale-up.

Jan-Willem König, the PCDF's Managing Director, says: 'Financing circular production companies is capital intensive and therefore requires relatively large amounts of patient capital. Various innovative sustainability solutions are already available, but they do not have sufficient scale to make a significant impact. We can accelerate the transition to a circular economy by funding these solutions. This latest capital injection will make a considerable impact in that regard.'

'The PCDF gives companies access to capital at a critical stage in their growth; at the time when new technology is applied on a commercial scale for the first time. Many investors lack the knowledge or mandate to operate in this part of the market, which is particularly difficult to finance. The PCDF can achieve this, and we therefore expect productive collaboration between these parties that is not limited to an investment in the fund,' says Tim van Vledder, senior investment manager at Invest-NL.
