As the National Promotional Institution, our mission is to make the Netherlands more innovative and sustainable. Our Impact & ESG team is essential in achieving this.

They provide direction for our investments and organization. They do this by making results transparent, developing policies, offering advice, and engaging in dialogue. Because only when we make impact visible can we also improve it.

In this series of videos, four Impact & ESG colleagues explain how they capture impact.

How do we take action on gender diversity?

Gender diversity remains a key focus within our portfolio. That’s why we have included clear objectives in our revised Impact and ESG policy. With these, we aim to actively improve gender diversity. What are our goals, and how do we measure progress? Florentine van den Eerenbeemt, ESG Officer, explains how we are working towards equal opportunities.

What does our 2030 impact outlook show?

Invest-NL provides patient capital, which is a crucial need for innovative businesses. Becoming operational and creating impact takes time, sometimes five to ten years. That is why, alongside our current impact results, we also share projections for 2030. What do we expect in terms of CO₂ reduction and resource use? And where do we stand today? Nathan Buijs, Impact Officer, explains it in this video.

How do we create value as an active shareholder?

As a National Promotional Institution, we take an active role as a shareholder. Through impact assessments and tools such as EcoVadis, we help companies move forward. But what does that collaboration look like in practice? And does it actually deliver results? Andrea van Dijk, Team Lead Impact and ESG, demonstrates how we work together to support our portfolio companies in improving their performance.

Why do we measure water and land use?

Following an extensive exploration into water and biodiversity, we have added these themes as new impact areas. This means that since 2024 we are measuring the water and land use of our investments. This helps us gain better insight and enables targeted adjustments.

Kirsten Odenwald, ESG & impact analyst, explains where we stand now and what that means for our investment choices.
