Invest-NL invests in NextGen Ventures

Invest-NL is investing €5 million in NextGen Ventures 2. Through this investment, Invest-NL is enabling the fund to make more investments in Dutch high-tech companies that operate in digital health and medtech.

Invest-NL’s investment increases NextGen Ventures 2’s fund assets to € 32 million. The fund invests in early stage companies with initial investment amounts ranging from approximately € 0.50 million to € 1.5 million. This amount can reach over € 3 million, including follow-up investments. The investments are used for purposes including clinical studies and market introductions in the Netherlands and abroad.

Investment focus: data is next

NextGen Ventures 2 invests in digital health and medtech. The fund prefers data-driven innovations that contribute to better treatment, diagnostics and remote care and, that way, bring about positive change within the healthcare system. Investments are also being made in minimally invasive surgery and other medical technical solutions that contribute to higher-quality and more efficient healthcare. This objective neatly aligns with Invest-NL’s ambition to contribute to affordable, accessible healthcare by financing healthcare innovations.

Karin Steffens, senior investment manager in Healthcare at Invest-NL: “With the investments from its first fund, NextGen has shown that it can make a significant contribution to both the affordability and quality of healthcare in the Netherlands. This is relevant as the Dutch healthcare sector has limited capital available for high-risk, early-stage investments. Through this investment in the second NextGen Ventures fund, Invest-NL wants to help accelerate the introduction of healthcare innovations to the patient.”“Invest-NL is one of the largest social investors in the Netherlands and now plays a key role in the Dutch ecosystem by bringing new technological developments to the market”, says Peter Haasjes, member of the management board at NextGen Ventures 2.

Investments from NextGen Ventures 2

NextGen Ventures 2 recently invested in three companies: Manometric, which has developed 3D technology for designing and printing orthoses and prosthetics, Smartlockr, which integrates the sending of secure medical data into a standard email address in order to prevent data breaches, and Stentit, which has developed a regenerative, soluble stent that can be used as a first indication for peripheral arterial disease. NextGen Ventures 2 intends to invest in around ten companies.
