Invest-NL announces an investment of € 7.5 million in the Forbion BioEconomy Fund I, a new fund focused on innovative companies using biotechnology to drive sustainable innovations. Through this investment, we contribute to the growth of innovative Dutch businesses developing solutions to some of the biggest challenges in the fields of environmental sustainability and food production.
Forbion is an established name in the life sciences sector and, with this new fund, is targeting solutions in industrial materials, environmental technology, food, and agriculture. The companies receiving investments from Forbion are working on groundbreaking biotechnological innovations, such as alternative proteins and bio-based materials.
Based in the Netherlands, Forbion is firmly rooted in the Dutch biotech sector. Drawing on decades of experience in life sciences, Forbion brings valuable expertise and a broad network, creating opportunities for co-investments and knowledge sharing within the Dutch market.
“The Forbion BioEconomy Fund is one of the few funds active in the Netherlands in the field of biotechnology, a sector with a strong need for additional expertise and capital. The fund specifically addresses the transition in materials and food production, which aligns seamlessly with our mission to achieve a circular economy and a climate-neutral food system,” says David de Vries, investment analyst at Invest-NL.
In addition to Invest-NL, Invest International is also committing € 10 million to the Forbion BioEconomy Fund. Forbion primarily focuses on companies that are already in advanced stages of development and have demonstrated proof of concept. The fund will actively support these companies in their next phase of growth within the Netherlands and Europe.
