Invest-NL invests in Keiron Printing Technologies for smarter electronic product manufacturing

Invest-NL invests € 6.9 million in Keiron Printing Technologies from Eindhoven. The investment is part of a Series A round of € 20.7 million, in which Invest-NL, together with DeepTechXL and Waves Capital, acts as lead. Ramphastos, TNO Ventures, ATUM Ventures, and Cottonwood are also investing. Keiron is applying existing laser technology in a new way to assemble printed circuit boards more intelligently.

Printed Circuit Boards form the basis of almost all modern electronics, from medical equipment and industrial machines to communication systems. Keiron focuses on one important component of the assembly: precisely applying solder paste, the material used to connect electronic components to a circuit board.

Manufacturing must be more precise and flexible

Printed circuit boards are becoming smaller and more complex. The rise of AI and faster connectivity demands more chips, sensors, and computing power on the same surface. At the same time, advanced chips are becoming larger and more expensive, making a single mistake during assembly increasingly costly. Moreover, manufacturers need to switch more quickly between different designs and smaller series. Traditional manufacturing methods are not always well-suited for this, as they often work with fixed templates and offer less room for adjustments per printed circuit board.

Keiron responds with a digital method that applies solder paste exactly where it is needed. This can help reduce errors, material waste, and electronic scrap. In this way, the technology contributes to more efficient production and stronger supply chains in the Netherlands and Europe.

Existing technology, new application

The laser technology Keiron uses has been around for decades, but has so far mainly been limited to laboratory applications. Keiron has further developed this technology into an industrial electronic production solution, with its own optics, measurement technology, and software.

"In a market that has been dominated by the same technologies for decades, we see in Keiron’s proposition the potential for a real breakthrough innovation, fully developed within the Dutch high-tech ecosystem. With the investment from Invest-NL, we are accelerating the commercialisation of the current product, while also working on new product development and innovation," says Maaike Vranckaerts, Investment Manager at Invest-NL.

With the funding, Keiron can further validate its technology with customers, scale up the first systems, build a service organisation, and work on the next generation of the platform. Keiron has already received an Innovation Credit from RVO in an earlier phase. The current investment round demonstrates how public funding at an early stage and private investments can reinforce each other for further growth. With this investment, Invest-NL helps an Eindhoven-based company move from validation to scaling, in a market that is important for innovation, production, and competitiveness.
