Invest-NL is investing € 5 million in Eindhoven-based Morphotonics. The investment is part of a over € 40 million funding round and will help the company further scale up its nanoimprint technology for AR glasses and advanced displays.
Smart glasses and AR glasses are becoming smaller, lighter and smarter. To make this technology affordable on a larger scale, new production methods are needed. Morphotonics is developing technology to apply extremely small structures to large glass panels. This enables optical components for AR glasses and advanced displays, among other applications, to be made more efficiently, in larger volumes and at lower cost.
With this investment, Invest-NL is supporting a Dutch deep-tech company working on technology for larger production volumes. Morphotonics is based in Eindhoven and is part of an ecosystem where knowledge, capital and manufacturing come together.
The technology can also contribute to more efficient production, with less material waste and lower energy consumption than existing production methods. This aligns with Invest-NL’s ambition to finance companies that make the Netherlands more sustainable and innovative.
Morphotonics is using the funding, among other things, to develop Cypris, a fully automated production line for the AR and VR market. This will enable the company to work towards larger production volumes and further commercial growth.
In addition to Invest-NL, Innovation Industries, BOM, 3M Ventures and the EIB are also participating in the funding round. By mobilising capital together with other investors, Morphotonics has the scope to further develop its technology and accelerate the transition to mass production.
