Invest-NL to invest in Unovis’ New Crop Alternative Protein Fund II

Invest-NL is set to invest € 10 million in Unovis Asset Management’s New Crop Alternative Protein Fund II (NCAP II). Unovis is an impact investment fund that seeks to enable the transition from animal protein consumption to plant-based and alternative protein sources.

Unovis and Invest-NL share a common goal: to make plant-based and alternative proteins an easy choice for all Dutch consumers and thus reduce carbon emissions. With its long and extensive investment history in this sector, Unovis has become a major driver of the protein transition.

Wouter Bos (CEO at Invest-NL): “This investment matches Invest-NL’s goal of working towards a carbon-neutral economy. Since the meat and dairy industry is responsible for high levels of carbon and other greenhouse gas emissions, the transition from animal protein sources to alternative protein sources is an important step. In addition, this will reduce the use of agricultural land and water and prevent animal suffering. One of the first investors in the protein transition, Unovis has demonstrably made a successful contribution here.”

Chris Kerr (Founder Partner & Chief Investment Officer at Unovis): “The alteration of our global production system for animal protein and its inherent consequences for animal suffering, climate change, food injustice and countless other harmful effects of animal use calls for revolutionary changes. Our first fund, New Crop Capital Trust, proved that with a little ingenuity, a little capital and a little collaboration with some of the world’s largest food companies, we can support this critical new process. It is a great privilege to close our second fund and continue to put investor capital to work to accelerate the urgently needed transition that will introduce alternative proteins to our food system.”
