Invest-NL is making a new investment in Eyeo through the Deep Tech Fund. The €7.5 million follow-on investment is part of a €40 million Series A round and supports the further development and application of a new generation of image sensors.
Eyeo is developing a new image sensor technology that captures three times more light than existing solutions. Instead of traditional color filters, which block a large portion of the light, Eyeo uses a technique that distributes the light more efficiently across pixels. This results in sharper images, especially in low-light situations, without requiring the sensor to be larger. The technology can also lead to smaller and therefore more affordable sensors.
Photonics is one of the key technologies in the National Technology Strategy and plays an increasingly important role in applications such as cameras, industrial systems, and security. By further developing this technology in Europe, Eyeo contributes to greater technological independence and a stronger European deep tech ecosystem.
The €40 million Series A round is led by Innovation Industries. In addition to Invest-NL, imec.xpand, QBIC, Brabantse Ontwikkelings Maatschappij (BOM), and HTGF are also investing. For Invest-NL, the investment aligns with its strategy to strengthen key technologies that are important for the economic potential and technological position of the Netherlands and Europe.
Since the previous investment round, Eyeo has taken significant steps forward. It has proven the technology in the lab and is now working toward real-world applications. As a spin-out of imec, Eyeo builds on more than ten years of research and a strong patent portfolio.
With this follow-on investment, Eyeo can enter the next phase of development. The funding will be used to further test the technology, scale up production, and work with customers toward the first real-world applications. In doing so, Eyeo is taking the next step from research to market introduction.
