Invest-NL backs data security through Dutch Security TechFund

Invest-NL and TIIN Capital are joining forces to help fund the future of data security in the Netherlands. To achieve this goal, Invest-NL has become part of the Dutch Security TechFund and will be investing € 5 million.

The Dutch Security TechFund backs innovative Dutch start-ups and scale-ups with a focus on data security and wider issues of cybersecurity. Alone or with co-investors, the Fund invests sums of € 250,000 and over in start-ups, and up to € 5 million in scale-ups. Its portfolio companies include Fraud Dynamics (frauddynamics.com) and Oditty (oddity.ai).

Invest-NL’s stake brings the total size of the Dutch Security TechFund to € 30 million, with an additional €6 million available through the Netherlands Enterprise Agency’s seed capital scheme. The Fund’s other investors include KPN Ventures, O2 Capital, Groningen Investment Fund and Innovation Quarter.

Leo Holwerda, Capital Director at Invest-NL, sees this as an investment with great potential: “By investing through the Dutch Security TechFund, we help create funding opportunities in data security and cybersecurity and make it possible to invest in young SMEs in this fast growing sector at an early stage and with relatively small tickets. Building on TIIN Capital’s expertise and track record, we have every confidence that this fund will succeed in making the Netherlands more secure and more innovative.”

Michael Lucassen, Managing Partner at TIIN Capital, welcomes the collaboration with Invest-NL as a significant step: “Invest-NL’s involvement seals our ambition of establishing a cybersecurity fund that serves the interests of the Netherlands as a whole. Thanks to the depth of investment and additional capital Invest-NL brings, the fund can really live up to its name as the Dutch Security TechFund, supporting innovation and growth more effectively than ever before.”
