Invest-NL is committed to a sustainable and innovative future for the Netherlands. One of the themes that Invest-NL focuses on is deep tech. Through our own Deep Tech Fund, we specifically invest in companies operating in key enabling technologies.
The development of nanotechnology is a crucial advancement for an innovative future. Therefore, Invest-NL is supporting SCIL Nanoimprint Solutions through the Deep Tech Fund with an investment of € 2.5 million, as part of a total investment exceeding € 10 million. This investment round, in collaboration with imec.xpand, RSBG Ventures, and the Brabant Development Agency (BOM), signifies the spin-out of SCIL from Philips into an independent enterprise.
SCIL pioneers groundbreaking nano-manufacturing equipment and material solutions that empower high-tech industries to create smaller, more efficient photonic and electronic devices. Leveraging technology developed within Philips Research, SCIL has played a leading role in the innovation of equipment for the miniaturization of photonic devices and semiconductors. Their nano-imprint lithography equipment and materials enable high-volume, low-cost production of products such as AR smart glasses, lasers, biosensors, and metalenses for smartphones and other consumer electronics.
Within Philips, SCIL has evolved into an established player with a strong customer base. With this growth financing, SCIL is launching as an independent spin-off to further scale their business and strengthen their position as a market leader.
René Brama, senior investment manager at Deep Tech Fund, states, "Nanotechnology is among the key technologies driving innovation in the Netherlands. SCIL is excellently positioned to grow internationally in the rapidly expanding market of nanoimprint applications, supported by a robust consortium of technology investors and a solid intellectual property and patent portfolio."
