Invest-NL is investing € 15 million in DeepTechXL Fund I. The new deep-tech fund is set to invest in promising high-tech start-ups and scale-ups in the Netherlands.
The DeepTechXL Fund I is the product of a unique partnership between the tech sector, the region of Brabant and several impact investors including Invest‑NL. Other investors in the fund, which is aiming for fund assets of at least € 100 million, include strategic partners and co-initiators ASML, Philips, Brabant Development Company (BOM), TNO, PME pension fund, a number of Dutch family offices and the members of the fund’s own management. In addition, the fund received a € 9 million loan from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), specifically for seed investments.
Jan Pieter Postma - interim CEO van Invest-NL: “This investment in Deep Tech Fund I testifies to Invest‑NL’s commitment as an impact investor to taking on a leading role in strengthening the Dutch deep-tech sector.”
DeepTechXL Fund I is expected to fund 20 early stage (‘seed’) investments and around 15 investments in the next stage of development. In other words, businesses are given financial backing at different stages of their development, from seed and pre-seed to Series A-C.
Due to the typical complexity of deep-tech investments, the new fund is more than just an investment vehicle. Together with the investing (industry) partners, the fund offers support to start-ups in the form of knowledge, network, technologies, licences and business development. The fund can connect businesses to their first clients and help them find the right partners in the supply chain, enter new markets and scale up production.
