Today, Invest-NL announced it is investing € 10 million in Nearfield Instruments through the Deep Tech Fund, as part of a € 135 million Series C financing round. Thermal storage is profitable and relevant. Previous Invest-NL research - Opportunities in thermal storage systems - estimates a market potential of 45 PJ in 2050. Until 2035, this represents a market value of €500 million. It also results in significant social benefits: adding buffers reduces the use of gas-fired peak boilers and makes district heating networks more flexible and future-proof.
